Valley Formations

This is Park Avenue — the stretch of Arches where towering vertical walls and freestanding monoliths line a canyon floor so closely that early visitors thought of a city street walled by skyscrapers.

Photographed June 2003. The wash and trail run down the dark foreground between walls that rise like buildings on both sides. Monumental and almost urban — stone given the proportions of a city.
