A row of Union Jacks along a London street — the kind of casual flag-flying that becomes more pronounced around royal events and never quite goes away in between. The flag's design dates to 1801, combining the crosses of England, Scotland, and Ireland into a single emblem of the United Kingdom; in central London, it appears on more buildings, lamp-posts, and shopfronts than any single visitor has time to count. Made in May 2023 during my first trip to England. Some photographs are about a single thing; this one is about repetition and color.
