A second view of moored gondolas at the city's quayside. The gondola count in Venice has held steady at around four hundred for most of the last century — strictly regulated by the city, with the trade passed down through a small number of guild families. The boats themselves are still built by hand at a handful of squeri (gondola yards) scattered through the city.
