Golden

Late light on the city. Chicago sits on the western shore of Lake Michigan, which means the setting sun rakes across the faces of the downtown towers from over the land, lighting the glass and stone for a few minutes each evening before it goes.

Photographed at golden hour, June 2024, in color. This is the photograph color exists for — the warm cast on the buildings, the brief moment when the whole skyline turns the temperature of the light. It is the city at its most flattering, and it does not last long.
