The First Presbyterian Church on Fifth Avenue, completed in 1846, is one of the oldest Gothic Revival churches in the city — its brownstone bell tower modeled on the medieval Magdalen Tower at Oxford. It has anchored its block in Greenwich Village for over a century and a half.

Photographed May 2013, in color. Summer trees screen and frame the dark tower against a blue, cloud-flecked sky. The color is the point here: green leaves, blue sky, and old brown stone, the church half-hidden in the foliage the way you actually come upon it from the street.
