Buckingham Palace has been the official London residence of the British monarch since Queen Victoria moved in upon her accession in 1837. The facade visible to the public — the famous east front with the balcony where the royal family appears — was added by Sir Aston Webb in 1913, replacing an earlier facade that was rapidly weathering. The palace contains 775 rooms and sits at the end of the long ceremonial sweep of The Mall.
Photographed in May 2023 during my first visit to England. The palace is one of those buildings that is somehow exactly as photographable as you'd expect — its symmetry, its scale, and its singular function combine to make almost any frame work.
