Wires and Street Lamp

Two wires cross into a wide X just above a leaning utility pole, its ornate lamp fixture perched at the intersection like a finial. A second, smaller streetlamp stands off to the left, and a ragged line of trees closes out the bottom of the frame, all of it silhouetted hard against a sky thick with soft, piled-up clouds.

The crossing wires give the eye a place to land dead center, while the mismatched pair of lamps — one grand, one plain — adds a bit of everyday absurdity to an otherwise formal study in black shapes against white sky.
