Westminster School traces its origins back to a Benedictine monastery school attached to the abbey, though it was formally re-founded by Queen Elizabeth I in 1560. It has been educating students continuously on the same site for more than four centuries — Christopher Wren, John Locke, Ben Jonson, and seven prime ministers among them. The school's buildings nestle into the shadow of the abbey, almost hidden in plain sight. Photographed in May 2023. There is a particular quiet around this corner of London — institutions that have been there so long they no longer announce themselves.
