Westminster Abbey has been the coronation church of England since 1066 — almost a thousand years of monarchs crowned beneath the same vault. Sixteen royal weddings have been held here, including the most recent, and seventeen monarchs are buried inside. The current building, mostly thirteenth and fourteenth century, stands on a site of Christian worship that may go back to the seventh century.
Photographed in May 2023 during my first visit to the United Kingdom. The abbey is the kind of place where it's nearly impossible to choose what to photograph; every direction has been worked on by craftsmen for a thousand years, and the building rewards every angle.
