Via Nazionale is one of the principal nineteenth-century streets of Rome, cut through the older urban fabric in the 1870s as part of the post-unification modernization of the city. It runs from Piazza della Repubblica down to Piazza Venezia, and its buildings — banks, hotels, ministries — represent the architectural ambitions of the new Italian state. It is a different Rome from the ancient or Renaissance city; it is the Rome of the modern nation.

Made in October 2016 during my first time in Italy.
