A single tree on the bank of the Sligachan — wind-bent, holding its ground in a landscape that doesn't easily forgive trees. The Cuillin Hills run for miles in every direction with very little growing on them; finding a tree at all on the Sligachan feels like a small act of defiance, and photographing it like an acknowledgment of that. Photographed in late May 2023 on Skye. The Highlands strip a landscape down to its essentials; sometimes a single shape against open ground is all an image needs.
