A bleached, branchless tree skeleton stands directly in the surf, its bare limbs reaching up against a sky full of white cumulus. This is Capers Island's famous "boneyard beach," where erosion has undercut the maritime forest for years, leaving dead live oaks and palms standing — sometimes for decades — in the very water that killed them.
The first of several boneyard beach photographs taken during a walk down the shoreline at low tide.
