The Rio delle Veste is one of Venice's quieter back canals — far from the Grand Canal traffic, no vaporetto stops, no gondola crowds. Just stone walls coming straight down to water, a few moored boats, the occasional figure crossing a bridge. Venice has 150 canals and over 400 bridges; most of them are like this one. Made in late September 2016 during my first time in Venice. The interior canals are where the city's character lives — the postcards are honest about the Grand Canal, but they leave out everything that makes Venice feel like a city rather than a stage set.
