A second view of the Pantheon, this one focusing on the pediment and the inscription — M·AGRIPPA·L·F·COS·TERTIVM·FECIT — "Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, made this, in his third consulate." Agrippa built the original temple on the site in 27 BC; Hadrian's reconstruction preserved his predecessor's name out of either modesty or political calculation, no one is quite sure which.
