Long Hunter State Park sits on the eastern shore of Percy Priest Lake, just outside Nashville in Middle Tennessee — a stretch of cedar glades, limestone shoreline, and quiet coves along a reservoir built in the 1960s. The park takes its name from the "long hunters" of the eighteenth century, who ranged through this country on hunts that lasted months at a time.
Photographed at Long Hunter State Park in October 2021. The Tennessee lakes have a different character from the Arkansas ones — lower, more wooded, the limestone always close to the surface — and Percy Priest in autumn is one of the easy pleasures of living near Nashville.
