The live oaks along Forsyth Park's central promenade have grown into a single unbroken canopy, their branches meeting overhead and dripping with Spanish moss the way they have for more than a century and a half. The path runs arrow-straight toward the park's landmark fountain, iron benches and gas-style lampposts lined up along the brick edging like an honor guard. It's the postcard view of Savannah for good reason — few American parks feel this theatrical simply by virtue of their trees.
Photographed on a bright June afternoon, midway through a week split between Savannah and Charleston. The dappled shade along this walk was the closest thing to air conditioning the city had to offer, and it's where more than one afternoon of the trip started.
