Fin Formation

A single fin, given the full vertical treatment — a blade of sandstone rising to a sharp peak, with a small opening just beginning to break through near its shoulder.

Photographed June 2003, vertical. Big tumbled boulders pile at its base under a deep clear sky. You can read the future arch in it: the hole that, given enough centuries, will turn this fin into a span.
