A split-rail fence zigzags along the shoulder of a gravel road as it curves through a mountain pass, a single tree with light leaf cover standing where the fence meets the bend. A small marker post leans at the fence line, and a heavy bank of cloud fills most of the sky above.
The fence gives the eye a rail to follow through the curve, plain and functional against a landscape that otherwise has nothing man-made in it at all — just road, tree, cloud, and the low ridge implied beyond the frame's edge.
