The Fairy Pools fall in a series of clear cascades down the slopes of Glen Brittle, on the western flank of the Black Cuillin. The water is improbably blue-green even on overcast days — fed by snowmelt and the kind of mountain streams that have been polishing their stones since long before anyone gave them a name. The walk in from the road takes about half an hour, and is worth every step.
Photographed in late May 2023 on Skye. The pools are no secret — they appear in every guidebook — but they are still one of the most genuinely magical places I have ever stood, and the camera, for once, understood exactly what I was seeing.
