Up close, the clock tower's detail is a study in patience: the gilded ironwork, the white stone face nearly four meters across, the carved tracery that Pugin worked into every available surface. From street level, you see the building's vertical insistence — three hundred and sixteen feet of stone pointed straight at the London sky.
Photographed in May 2023 on my first visit to the city. There is a particular satisfaction in standing beneath something this familiar and finding it more complicated than you expected.
