In black and white, an obelisk and a cluster of headstones stand under a low canopy of moss, the texture of stone and lichen and hanging moss all rendered in the same soft gray. The cemetery has drawn visitors and writers for well over a century — John Muir camped here for a week in 1867 on his walk to the Gulf of Mexico, later writing that he'd rather be buried among Bonaventure's oaks than anywhere else he'd seen.
One of several black-and-white frames from the Bonaventure visit, chosen for the sheer density of texture in the moss and stone.
