Baton Rouge Bridge

The long cantilever span of the Horace Wilkinson Bridge — the I-10 "New Bridge," the highest crossing on the Mississippi — stretches across the river at Baton Rouge, industrial works crowding the far bank. Above it, an immense cloudscape of towering cumulus and streaked cirrus fills the frame, dwarfing the bridge and the river below. Rendered in black and white, the photograph is as much a portrait of the Louisiana sky as of the great steel structure beneath it.
