Looking straight up at the Mercer-Williams House, the ornamental ironwork of its second-floor balcony reads almost like lace against the salmon-pink stucco. The house — built for the great-grandfather of songwriter Johnny Mercer — is the most photographed private residence in Savannah, largely thanks to the true-crime story it's associated with, and even a detail shot like this one gives some sense of why.
Monterey Square was a late-afternoon stop in Savannah, and this balcony was too ornate to walk past without a closer look.
