Low sun breaks through a stand of bare, frost-rimmed trees, flaring bright through the branches and throwing the whole tangle into fine black silhouette against a blown-out sky. A guardrail and a strip of frosted grass anchor the bottom of the frame — a roadside pull-off, caught in the first hard light of the day.
