Two London landmarks separated by nearly a hundred and fifty years and visible from a single vantage on the river. Tower Bridge opened in 1894 in full Victorian Gothic; the Shard topped out in 2012 as the tallest building in the United Kingdom. The composition between them is part of what makes London's skyline distinct — every era is allowed to stand next to every other era. Made in May 2023 during my first walk along the South Bank. London does not edit its skyline for coherence; the result is more interesting than coherence would have been.
