The Shard rises 1,016 feet above London Bridge station — 95 stories of glass coming to a point that, on a clear day, can be seen from twenty miles outside the city. Renzo Piano designed it to evoke the masts of ships and the spires of churches; it remains the tallest building in the United Kingdom and one of the tallest in Europe.
Photographed in May 2023 from a vantage on the South Bank. The Shard is a building that rewards different distances; from up close, it disappears into reflection; from across the river, it shows its full shape.
