The Ness runs slow and broad through Inverness, the last river the Highlands give up before the Moray Firth takes it to the sea. There is a quietness here that the city around it never quite breaks — old stone bridges, dark water, the sky reflected in long ribbons through the heart of the capital of the Highlands. Photographed in late spring 2023 during my first journey to Scotland — a country I had long wanted to visit for its history and the unhurried beauty of its land. The Ness was one of the first things I saw on arrival in the north, and one of the last I returned to before leaving.
