The Flatiron

The Flatiron Building at the end of the day, seen the classic way — the full wedge rising from the island where Broadway and Fifth Avenue cross at 23rd Street, traffic streaming past its base and the old sidewalk clock keeping time at the corner.

Photographed May 2013, at golden hour, in color. The warm sky behind the tower is the whole reason for the frame — the light the building was made to be seen in. Where the black-and-white view is all edge and geometry, this one is warmth and city and the end of a long day.
