Street Corner

The everyday architecture of downtown: an early setback skyscraper rising over a corner storefront, a sidewalk clock, a tangle of traffic signals and overhead wire. The signage marks the moment — J&R Music World, the electronics emporium that anchored Park Row for decades before it closed in 2014.

Photographed May 2013. A year later the store would be gone. In black and white the corner becomes a small portrait of a particular New York — the tall old building, the cluttered street, the shop that isn't there anymore.
