Skyscrapers, Clouded

The same towers as the sunlit frame nearby — but returned to on a different day, under a different sky. Part of photographing a city is going back: the same buildings refuse to be the same picture twice, and the weather coming in off Lake Michigan rewrites them constantly.

Photographed June 2024, looking up, under heavy cloud. Where the other frame caught a flare of sun, this one sits beneath a dense, clouded sky — the buildings darker, the mood closed in. Black and white is built for exactly this: a day with no color in it, all weight and grey and rising stone.
