Inland gulls have become a fixture of central London in recent decades — herring gulls, in particular, have learned to make a living from the city rather than the coast. This one paused long enough to give the camera the kind of self-possessed look that a coastal seagull rarely offers. The composition is incidental; the encounter was not.
Made in May 2023 during my first visit to England. London's wildlife is one of the city's quieter pleasures.
