The Sligachan rises in the Cuillin Hills and runs cold and fast toward the sea. Its water is famously clear — clear enough, the old stories say, to grant eternal youth to anyone who dips their face in it for seven seconds. The surrounding hills are some of the most dramatic in Britain, the Black Cuillin in particular catching weather in ways that change the light every few minutes.
Photographed in late May 2023 on Skye. The Sligachan is one of those rivers that rewards patience — the longer you watch it, the more it shows you, and the harder it becomes to leave.
