The Sligachan drains the central Cuillin and runs east through open moorland to the sea. Where most Highland rivers tumble through tight glens, the Sligachan has space — wide stony banks, broad shallow pools, the Cuillin rising abruptly in the distance like a darker country at the edge of this one. It is one of the most painted and photographed rivers in Scotland for a reason.
Made in late May 2023 on Skye, from a different bend in the river than its companion image. Each turn shows you the Cuillin from a slightly different angle; the mountains are constant, but the relationship between water and stone keeps changing.
