Florence's town hall — the Palazzo Vecchio — has been the seat of civic government since 1322. The 308-foot tower above it, the Torre di Arnolfo, holds one of the original bells of the Florentine Republic; the building below has hosted Dante, Machiavelli, the Medici, and every subsequent ruler of the city, and continues to function as the mayor's office today.
Made in October 2016 in black and white during my first time in Italy. The Palazzo Vecchio is the visible symbol of Florence's civic identity — older than the Medici, older than the Renaissance, still in use.
