The Sound of Raasay runs between Skye and the island of Raasay, a narrow stretch of sea that catches the changing weather and throws it back as light. On a clear day you can see the Cuillin to the south and the long low shape of Raasay across the water; on a misty day you cannot see twenty feet, and the world becomes very small. Photographed in late May 2023 from a high vantage on Skye's eastern coast. The Highlands are made of these sudden views — turns in the road that open onto distances you weren't prepared for.
