The full Italianate facade, in red brick with tall arched windows and paired iron balconies, sits behind palmettos and a moss-draped oak at the corner of Monterey Square. Built in the 1860s, the house sat unfinished for years and later passed through several owners before becoming the center of the story told in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" — still probably the reason more people visit this particular corner of Savannah than any other.
Photographed from the sidewalk across the street on a partly cloudy June afternoon, the same stop that produced the balcony detail shot elsewhere in this collection.
