Seen from above, the lily pads of Caddo Lake crowd together across dark water in a mosaic of jade green and weathered rose. Older leaves have turned lavender and cream, their veins fanning out like brushstrokes, while a single furled bud spikes upward at the center. Photographed in 1998, the image finds an almost painterly abstraction in the surface of the swamp.
