A jetty running out into fog on Cordell Hull Reservoir — the lake on the Cumberland River in Middle Tennessee, formed in 1973 when the Cordell Hull Dam was built near Carthage. Named for the Tennessee statesman who served as Franklin Roosevelt's Secretary of State and helped found the United Nations, the reservoir winds through the hills of the upper Cumberland, and on a foggy morning the far end of a jetty simply dissolves into white.

Photographed at Cordell Hull Reservoir in 2024. A jetty leading into fog is almost too good a composition to pass up — a hard line running out into soft nothing, the eye following it until it disappears.
