Florence Cathedral

A second view of the cathedral, in black and white. The exterior of the Duomo is faced in green and pink marble from the quarries of Prato and Maremma, with white marble from Carrara — a tricolor pattern that was added over centuries and only completed in the late nineteenth century. In monochrome, the patterning becomes pure rhythm; the colors are interesting, but the shapes are the story.
