Double Arch

Double Arch is two great spans growing from a single rock, joined at one end — formed not by a stream cutting through a fin like most arches, but by water eroding downward from the top. The result is a soaring, cathedral-like double opening.

Photographed June 2003, from below and in front so both arches read clearly against the sky. The cavern beneath and the desert scrub at the bottom set the scale. One of the genuinely awe-inspiring sights in the park.
