Christopher Wren's dome rises 365 feet above the City of London — for two and a half centuries, the highest point in the city, and still its most recognizable feature. Wren designed it to rival St. Peter's in Rome; he succeeded, in part by hiding a brick cone inside the visible outer dome to support the lantern at the top. It is one of the great works of English architecture, and one of the great recoveries — St. Paul's survived the Blitz when most of the surrounding city did not.
Photographed in May 2023 during my first visit to London. The dome is a building that improves with each angle; this is one of them.
