Colosseum

A second view of the amphitheatre, from another angle. About two-thirds of the original structure has been lost, but the surviving portion still gives the sense of scale that made the building one of the wonders of the ancient world. The hypogeum — the underground level where animals and gladiators waited — is now visible from above, the floor of the arena having been removed in the nineteenth century.
