Looking up into a gap between two of the tree's massive limbs, ferns growing sideways out of the bark and sunlight breaking through the canopy in scattered patches. Many of the Angel Oak's larger limbs have grown so heavy over the centuries that they now rest directly on the ground, sending up new growth along their length as if they were separate trees.
