A Hole In the Wall

Warm daylight rakes a red-and-pink brick wall, and near the base a dark triangular breach opens into shadow, dry plants and green foliage crowding the foreground. The whole surface is texture — countless bricks, slightly irregular, glowing in the light.

The picture balances the broad warm field of brick against that one dark void, pattern against absence. The eye drifts across the rhythm of the courses and keeps catching on the hole, the single break in an otherwise unbroken wall.
